Helping mobile operators in protecting their networks from viruses and security threats,
Openwave Systems has introduced Openwave Guardian, the latest service enabler for Openwave Integra, a next generation mobile Internet service management platform.
With the mobile devices offering Internet access at the push of a button, the number of virus attacks on mobile networks is constantly on the rise. Unfortunately, mobile Internet security has not kept up the pace of growth witnessed in mobile internet and hence, hackers face lesser resistance with mobile networks.
With Openwave Guardian, a mobile operator can restrict a user's access to specific content categories with content access control based on URL category. The operator can also control access to specified content types from a list of approved sites with content type access control. Also, the mobile operator can automatically activate safe search for minors when using popular search engines from their mobile device.
“As more and more subscribers are using their mobile devices to access internet content, operators are under more pressure than ever before to protect their networks,” said Dan Nguyen, vice president, product management, Openwave.
“Openwave Guardian provides a comprehensive set of security features to meet an operator's unique business needs while working to ensure that the subscriber feels safe while browsing open internet content from their mobile device,” Nguyen continued.
The anti-virus provided in the solution consists of selective transaction request or response path interception based on a URL and/or content type. This solution also provides the mobile operator with a high degree of flexibility with the redirection to splash page facility.
Guardian is part of Openwave's Mobile Internet value-added services that are available for the Integra Mobile Internet Service Platform.
The company recently
launched Openwave Mobile Analytics 7.0, a solution that provides deep analytics and rich reporting for mobile devices, including feature phones, smartphones, netbooks and other mobile devices. The company said that the software offers mobile network operators to better understand mobile data usage, segmented by various subscriber demographics, peak usage times and identifies data consumption patterns.
